Yourstru.ly + Warpaint

Sean

Yourstru.ly and Warpaint finally meet. They are preforming “Bees” off their new album The Fool. I got my ticket for the Dec 2nd show at the Hall of Williamsburg, do you?

Warpaint at the Whitney

Sean

It probably goes without saying, but Warpaint killed it at the Whitney on Friday. The space they played in was very tight, and many people showed up, which made for a very intimate show. They even played an encore of “Billy Holiday” after their usual last: “Elephants.” If you haven’t had a chance, I highly recommend seeing this band. You can see more pics from the show at my flickr.

Celebrate this Friday the 13th at the Whitney because Warpaint and Javelin will be playing there at 7pm. Free with Museum admission, which is pay-what-you-wish on Fridays from 6–9 pm; there are no special tickets or reservations. See you there!

warpaint revisited

warpaint

I got a chance to see Warpaint again at the new Knitting Factory in Williamsburg on Tuesday and they were sickeningly awesome. Stella Mazgowa is such a perfect fit for them as she steals the show with her drumming. This time Warpaint headlined, following Beach Fossils who played a cool set—I dig the surfer-tremelo-reverb-beach-sound but I think too many of their songs sound too similar. I even managed to score some Warpaint vinyl. Their full length album comes out in late August so keep a look out for that. There is a fantastic interview of them at noisevox.org. John Norris looks really creepy but does a decent interview with the band. There is also some live sets as well in between interviews. Beetles is probably my favorite jam. The new Knitting Factory was surprisingly not bad; I had low expectations from an unfortunate event at the former venue in Tribeca. I would definitely like to see more shows there in the future.

I heart Warpaint

warpaint

I got a chance to check out Warpaint last night at the Hall of Williamsburg, and Holy Hell they are good. Their set list was simply amazing from beginning to end. If you don’t know who they are, Warpaint is a chick-band from LA who’s sound is a mix of indie rock, psychedelia, and sheer awesomeness. Last night Stella Mozgawa (Aussie drummer for MINK) was on the cans, and I hope that she is a permanent member as she pretty much stole the show last night.

After their set my friend handed them his book (which contains all his latest poems and illustrations) for an ol’ fashioned autograph to guitarist Theresa Wayma, and she simply took it and left. Luckily Jenny Lee Lindberg (bass) and Emily Kokal (guitar/lead vocals) were hanging out near the entrance and were well aware of the book snatching and was able to get the beloved book back, while we all had a quick chat. They are working on their new album now and I’ll be posting an update about that when some more news surfaces later this year.

The Hall of Williamburg is such a great venue too: they don’t overcrowd, you get a great view of the stage from wherever you are. Looking forward to Whitest Boy Alive on April 21st. P.S. – the dude who farted during elephants: not cool.

This band rocks. Cool video too. I’m sad I missed Via Audio at Union Hall tonight on account of the Snowpocalypse, but I wont be missing Warpaint at the Hall of Williamsburg on March 3rd.

Spotted at it’snicethat.
