screen prints

prints

I’ve been dying to do some silkscreening ever since I left school years ago, so I finally got some things together and turned a small space in my apartment into a DIY screen printing studio. These are my first prints; they are a one color print on paper, inspired by old nyc subway signage. I thought I’d keep it fairly simple while I iron out the kinks of doing this solely in my apt. As a designer, I spend so much time in front of the screen so this is an outlet to get my hands dirty. I cant wait to get going on the next project. You can see more pics here.

meet the frownies

Twin Sister just recorded the song “Meet the Frownies” for series called Shaking Through. It was their first time in a high end studio, and they recorded the song within two days. You can download the song for free and see more videos at shakingthrough.com. They are playing with The Morning Benders on November 18th at Webster Hall if you want to see a guaranteed great show. I am sadly (but not really) booked for Tame Impala, who will be playing at the Bowery Ballroom the same night.

Dumbo Arts Festival

So many cool things happening this weekend, and I won’t be around. But you should definately check out the Dumbo Art’s Festival.

“Imagine artists working in their studios, musicians and street performers appearing out of nowhere, artists creating murals before your eyes, poets reciting to passers-by, kids enjoying puppetry and music, DJs spinning in the streets, and wildly creative art installations everywhere. The Dumbo Arts Festival takes place on September 24th, 25th and 26th and attracts 150,000 visitors over 3 days and includes 150+ studios, 35+ galleries, 40+ arts organizations and a host of family friendly venues. The festival strives to offer something for everyone with artists and audiences of all ages and backgrounds. It strives to be accessible and sophisticated, to reflect New York’s creative community, to be real and flavorful, to show some grit and some polish, to be smart, creative and high quality – it is the Dumbo Arts Festival.”

Lost World’s Fairs

Newly announced ACD Young Gun (Art Directors Club) Frank Chimero just launched a wonderful site displaying the power of web typography for Microsoft’s new IE9. He explains his process on his blog, which is always in interesting read. Check out his beautiful deep sea adventure and the two other sites designed by Naz Hamid, and Jason Santa Maria here at the Lost World’s Fairs.
