reel inn

Lizzie

On PCH, between the opulent Getty Villa and extravagant Malibu celebrity homes; among dated, generic, overpriced Malibu and Santa Monica seafood restaurants, lies this tiny, unpretentious fish shack. As soon as the weather beckons me beachways, the Reel Inn is my go-to for a scenic Sunday drive, fresh fish and a frosty beer on the patio. In one direction the hills of Topanga Canyon stretch toward the San Fernando Valley. To the South, nothing but water. Picturesque is an understatement.

The food is as¬†casual and unaffected as the environment. Fish market-style display cases speak of freshness and simplicity. Nothing beats¬†their simply¬†grilled halibut fillet. The homemade cole slaw is crunchy and refreshing, not heavy and soggy. Their famous fish tacos are out of this world. Bring some friends, park at a picnic table on the patio with a cold local draft brew, enjoy the sunshine and the seafood, and you’ve got yourself the perfect Sunday.

Try it for yourself: 18661 Pacific Coast Highway, Malibu.
