KN

Sick of your desktop wallpaper? Bobby Solomon, of one of the raddest blogs Kitsune Noir, has currently 150 different wallpapers to choose from in all screen sizes including apple’s new iPad. The wallpapers are designed by his favorite designers and artist; there’s enough there to suit everyone’s taste. I’m currently rockin’ Micheal Cina’s wallpaper. If you don’t need a new wallpaper, (who are you kidding, of course you do) check out the blog anyway for tons of other cool stuff including the beloved KN Mixcasts.

Las Claras

This week is a refreshing beer/lemonade drink picked up from our friends, Duncan and Mary. It’s a drink enjoyed in Barcelona (where Mary is from). It’s a perfect drink for a summer day…or at least the tease of warm weather like we had last weekend.

The Lemonade
1 cup fresh squeezed lemons (4- 6 lemons)
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
3 -4 cups cold water

Create a simple syrup by heating 1 cup water and sugar in small saucepan until completely dissolved. Squeeze lemons for 1 cup of juice (any leftover lemon slices can be used for garnish). Mix simple syrup, lemon juice and cold water to taste and refrigerate.

La Clara
When ready to serve mix equal parts of the lemonade with a Hefeweisen beer. We experimented with Captain Lawrence Liquid Gold, a Belgian-style pale ale, and it made for a refreshing, delicious beverage.

¡Salud!

reel inn

Lizzie

On PCH, between the opulent Getty Villa and extravagant Malibu celebrity homes; among dated, generic, overpriced Malibu and Santa Monica seafood restaurants, lies this tiny, unpretentious fish shack. As soon as the weather beckons me beachways, the Reel Inn is my go-to for a scenic Sunday drive, fresh fish and a frosty beer on the patio. In one direction the hills of Topanga Canyon stretch toward the San Fernando Valley. To the South, nothing but water. Picturesque is an understatement.

The food is as casual and unaffected as the environment. Fish market-style display cases speak of freshness and simplicity. Nothing beats their simply grilled halibut fillet. The homemade cole slaw is crunchy and refreshing, not heavy and soggy. Their famous fish tacos are out of this world. Bring some friends, park at a picnic table on the patio with a cold local draft brew, enjoy the sunshine and the seafood, and you’ve got yourself the perfect Sunday.

Try it for yourself: 18661 Pacific Coast Highway, Malibu.

orphan, end credits

Sean

I just finished watching Orphan, and I’ll just say it’s a bit disturbing. Unlike the actual ending, I really enjoyed the end credits.
